Odisha Chief Secretary advices for active cooperation between State and Central Agencies

Odisha-Chief-SecretaryBhubaneswar, Jan 13: A one day coordination workshop on TDS (Tax Deduction at Source) and TCS (Tax Collection at Source ) was organized on Tuesday here in the premises of Ayakar Bhwan. Chief Secretary Sri Aditya Prasad Padhi addressed the workshop in its valedictory session during afternoon.

In his address Sri Padhi said that tax deducted at the source constitutes an important portion of the total income tax collected in the country. The tax collection during 2014-15 has grown by 19% over the FY 2013-14.  Sri Padhi advised to have regular intelligence sharing and active cooperation between State and Central agencies to enhance this growth rate in the current financial year.

Chief Secretary has also directed the Drawing & Disbursing Officers (DDO) of various departments of State Govt to ensure error free and smooth operation of TDS system. The development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Sri R. Balakrishnan joining the workshop as guest of honour said the present info-gap between various agencies and Income tax department need to be zeroed for addressing several problems relating to TDS and TCS.

He advised the treasury officers and DDOs to ensure timely deduction, filing of returns, and maintenance of records.  The workshop was inaugurated in the morning by Sri Sunil Kumar Mishra, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Odisha Region in the presence of Director Treasury and Inspections Govt of Odisha Sri Chandi Prasad Mohanty.

Around 180 DDOs and Treasury Officers of Govt of Odisha participated in the Workshop. The issues relating to  provisions, methods and procedures involved in TDS and  TCS were deliberated in the workshop. The participating officers raised the practical problems which they encountered in course of the settlements of TDS matters. The problems were analyzed and solutions were arrived at the workshop. The Commissioner, Income Tax Bhubaneswar Sri N. Jayasankar presented the conspectus at the beginning of the workshop and prepared the synoptic summary at the closing.
