Odisha celebrating Nuakhai with great Fervor & Gaiety

ONI Bureau: People of Western Odisha, undivided Koraput district and some other parts of the state are celebrating Nuakhai with great religious fervor and gaiety today. As per the ‘Lagna’, the season’s first crop ‘Nabanna’ was offered to Goddess Samaleswari between 8:10 AM & 8:40 AM.

Nuakhai generally falls during the months of August and September, where it is celebrated just a day after Ganesh Chaturthi. Maa Samaleswari in Sambalpur, Pataneswari in Bolangir, Manikeswari in Kalahandi and in other places the presiding deities are offered the ‘Nabanna’. People greet each other with ‘Nuakhai Juhar’.

‘Navanna’ the first paddy of the khariff season is offered to the Mother Goddess to seek her blessings for a bumper crop in the next harvest season.

On the occasion of Nuakhai festival, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, PCC President Niranjan Patnaik and former MP Baijayant Panda greeted the people.
