‘Niyamgiri-The Mountain of Law’ to screen at Kolkata International Film Festival

ONI Bureau:   A short documentary film highlighting the struggle of Dongria Kondh’s against Vedanta in Niyamgiri Hills in the districts of Kalahandi and Rayagada in the south-west of Odisha will be screened at the 2018 Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) in the Documentary Section.

This film, made by Surya Shankar Dash, a Bhubaneswar based filmmaker showcased how the Dongria community face false charges, tortured, abducted, jailed and murdered as they refused to leave their sacred land.

It is to be noted that for nearly two decades the community has been fighting legal battles to save their land from bauxite mining.

The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival started from November 10 and will conclude on Nov 17.
