Man Murders Wife And Mother In Law

In a horrific incident, a man killed his wife and mother-in-law late on Sunday night in Kantapal village in Mayurbhanj district.

Locals of the village were extremely agitated and that reflected when they detained the policemen and damaged the PCR van when police had come to investigate the case. The accused is identified as Purna Chandra Mahanta and deceased, Sumanti Mahanta (wife) and Mamata Mahanta (mother-in-law).

According to sources, Purna in an inebriated state used to abuse his wife physically and mentally every day. Unable to bear the trauma anymore, Sumanti and her mother complained to the police. Furious at this, he axed both to death.

The locals believed that the women would have survived had the police taken timely action which enraged them into protesting. Police has taken the accused into custody and a case has been registered.
