NASA Selects Proposals for First Space Technology Research Institutes

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected proposals for the creation of two multi-disciplinary, university-led research institutes which will focus on the development of technologies required for the endeavor.

The new institutes will advance NASA’s aim of developing technology, which will allow long duration mission crews to manufacture the products what they need, rather than depending upon the current practice resupply missions from Earth.

The Space Technology Research Institutes (STRIs) created under these proposals will bring the researchers together from various organizations to collaborate on the advancement of cutting-edge technologies in bio-manufacturing and space infrastructure with the goal of creating and maximizing Earth-independent, self-sustaining exploration mission capabilities.
