Women win Asia Cup Hockey 2017 1Insight Bureau:  An indebted nation salutes its Women Warriors who just won the Asia Cup Hockey 2017 title with a stunning victory over mighty China in the final. The match ended 1-1 in the regulation time and went to penalties.

The Indian women held their nerves and won the game 5-4, giving India a reason to celebrate. They remained invincible throughout the tournament.

With this win, India automatically qualified for the 2018 Women’s World Cup in England. It was India’s second Asia Cup title, as they won it last time in 2004, beating Japan 1-0 in Delhi. India also avenged their 2009 Asia Cup final defeat against China with today’s win.

India started their Asia Cup campaign on a positive note with a 10-0 win over Singapore. They defeated China 4-1 in the second match. They topped the group with a 2-0 win over Malaysia. India beat Kazakhstan 7-1 in the quarterfinal and then prevailed over Japan 4-2 in the semis to storm into the final. And, they finally made history in the final.

In the penalties, India and China missed one chance each and tied at 4-4. For India, Navneet missed the goal, while Xu missed it for China. In the final shootout, Liang missed the post, while Rani won it for India. India took the Gold, while China and South Korea won Silver and Bronze respectively.
