Sri Sri University leads Yoga Day 2015 Celebrations in Odisha

Sri Sri Ravi ShankarSri Sri University has taken leadership in promoting Yoga in Odisha and beyond. In the run up to the celebration of International Yoga Day today, the University has trained thousands of young boys and girls throughout the state including hundreds of NCC cadets.

The students today are performing before the leading dignitaries including the CM at the AYUSH organized celebration at the Kalinga Stadium. Yoga Faculty member Professor Prativa Sree will lead the yoga demonstration at the event where more than 5000 people and authorities will do yoga. As per the AYUSH, Government of India guidelines, 15 Asanas have been included in a complete yoga session of 35 minutes.

Prof Dinesh Swain, Senior Yoga Faculty mentioned that his students have worked hard throughout the summer break by training thousands of students and cadets. Students of Faculty of Yoga and Naturopathy were imparting training to NCC cadets of different schools & Colleges of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Phulbani, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Kendrapara, Salipur.

These 3500 students along with other NCC cadets will demonstrate Yoga Asanas on 21st June, International Yoga Day. In a session of 15 days Yoga Training Program NCC cadets are getting training of Standing, sitting and lying down asana besides Pranayama and Meditation recommended by Union Ministry of Ayush.

This Yoga training program is an attempt to create a world record for yoga done on mass scale on 21st June, International Yoga Day, said Dinesh Swain, Senior Faculty, Yoga and Naturopathy department of Sri Sri University. He said, “Yoga Training session was going on in two phases. In all the areas first phase of 15 days has been completed. He further added that Sri Sri Unversity Yoga students are also spreading knowledge of curing various diseases through Yoga”.

The purpose is to promote yoga locally which reflects the university’s global approach. Apart from the main event at Kalinga Stadium, University’s yoga students will be at various schools and colleges in Odisha to instruct and demonstrate yoga session today including at CISF-Mundali, OUAT- Bhubaneswar and Kendrapara Autonomous College.

It should be noted that the university launched an online essay competition to celebrate the yoga day which has received huge response from school and college students in Odisha. The varsity will also have Yoga session of hundreds of youth led by Director Operation Mr Narendra Lamba in open air amphitheater followed by plantation.

For last two years the Faculty of Naturopathy and Yogic Science through its faculty and UG, PG students has been at the forefront of the university to take the training in yogic practices to general public, school and university students.
