Puri Police to move Court seeking warrant against Servitors

Niladri BijePuri police will move court today to seek search warrants to take legal action against the absconding accused servitors who were involved in misbehaving with the District Collector and attacking on media persons during the Niladri Bije ritual of Lord Jagannath and his siblings at Puri on Sunday.

The properties of the Sevayats who indulged in misconduct would be attached after the issuance of warrants if they don’t turn up by Saturday, said Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi.

The District Collector, Arvind Agrawal has lodged two FIRs with the SP Sarthak Sarangi against six servitors who had misbehaved, abused and threatened him in a rough language while protesting the climbing of women on chariot. He was present at the spot, and had a squabble with some servitors regarding the issue.

Police has registered cases against the six servitors Damodar Mahasuara, Jaykrushna Mahasura, Saina Khuntia, Ipsit Pratihari, Bhimsen Palankadhari and Rabi Das.

As many as 15 servitors have been identified from the Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) footage, out of which two servitors Surya Narayan Pratihari and Raghunath Khuntia have been arrested.

Three Servitors Damodar Mahasuara, Jayakrushna Mahasuara and Harinarayan Khuntia, moved to HC seeking anticipatory bail pleas apprehending arrest by police on basis of the complaint lodged by the Puri Collector.
