Odisha Girl Anisha Acharya’s Film wins Student Academy Oscar Gold

Anisha-AcharyaIn a big development, ‘Day One’, a short film edited by Odisha girl Anisha Acharya of American Film Institute (AFI), has won the prestigious Annual Student Academy Gold Award 2015. The film was made by a team of students graduating from the AFI with Anisha at the helm.

The Student Academy Awards, consisting of gold, silver and bronze. Instituted in 1972, it aims at providing a platform for emerging talents in films and entertainment to showcase their work.

The award was presented to ‘Day One’ at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles on Thursday. Prior to winning ‘Student Oscar Gold Award’, the film had also won the prestigious BAFTA US Student Award and the Student Emmy Award.

‘Day One’ is a 25-min drama/war film set in Afghanistan with a mix of English and Dari and subtitles in 5 languages. On her first day in Afghanistan, an interpreter for the US Army is forced to deliver the child of an enemy bomb-maker. This is the theme of the film.

AnishaAnisha, who originally hails from Baragadia near Duburi in Jajpur district of Odisha, is currently doing the Master’s course in Film Editing at the American Film Institute (AFI) at Los Angeles. She had completed her graduation in Accessories Design at NIFT Bangalore. Her parents Dr. Jagabandhu Acharya and Dr. Shambhavi Acharya are staying in Bangalore.
