Odisha files Injunction Suit in Supreme Court on Mahanadi Issue: CM

The State Government on Friday filed a suit in the Supreme Court under Article 131 of the Constitution seeking an injunction against Chhattisgarh over construction of barrages on the upper catchment of Mahanadi river.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday informed it in the Assembly during the Zero Hour.

As per DPR of Hirakud Dam of 1947, Odisha government has claimed its equitable share of a minimum flow of 12.28 million acre feet of water at Hirakud Dam, Chief Minister said.

Earlier, the State Government filed a petition with the Union Water Resources Ministry for setting up a tribunal to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh, Patnaik reminded the House.
