Justice RK Patra dies in Cuttack at 72

Justice RK Patra or Radha Krushna Patra, who was probing into the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha, died at the age of 72. Justice Patra was suffering from pneumonia and being treated at the SCB Medical College and Hospital since January 24.

Although the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the chit fund scam and the investigating agency took over the investigation, that did not affect the Justice Patra Commission, which was granted another six-month extension by the Odisha Government in November 2014.

Justice Patra, the former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, was probing to identify influential people protecting and promoting chit fund activities in the state and to recommend the government as to how investors’ would get back their money.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condoled the sudden demise of Justice RK Patra.
