Infant Branding in Nabarangpur stuns District Administration

NabarangpurFew days back Nabarangpur district Collector Rasmita Panda got a cash prize of 15 lakhs and a memento from Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik for Jyoti Campaign to curb superstitions in Nabarangpur District, particularly the branding of new born babies.

But such case happened again in Nabarangpur district. In Khuntiaguda village under Tentulikhunti block,  a 45 days old infant have taken to a Dishari (traditional healer),  where the Dishari branded the baby with a iron road on stomach several times.

When his condition get deteriorated their parents brought him to District head quarter hospital and the child was admitted in ICU.

It is to be noted that, to curb such incident the district administration started an awareness drive in the name of “Jyoti Campaign” which covered 169 gram panchayat with 4400 traditional healer, anganwadi worker, Asha worker, panchayatiraj functionaries and local youths.
