Congress better placed to capture Gajapati Zilla Parishad in Odisha

There could be some good news for the Congress in the fifth and final phase panchayat polls, as it eyes to win at least two seats in Gajapati district to be in a position to capture the Zilla Parishad. The party has already won Jharsuguda ZP.

Out of the 11 zones that have gone to polls till date, Congress has won 5 so far. BJD has won 4 zones, while BJP has won 2 zones. The remaining 3 zones will go to polls tomorrow.

Congress needs to win all 3 zones to reach the magic figure of 8 in the 14-member Zilla Parishad. If it’s falls short, it may still form the ZP with the help of either party. However, if BJP or BJD wins two or three zones tomorrow, it could complicate the matter further. A split in Congress can’t be ruled out then.
