145 Dead, over 200 Injured in Kanpur Train Tragedy

As the worst accident in recent times, at least 145 people were killed and nearly 200 injured after the Indore-Patna Express train jumped the tracks near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday morning.

At least fourteen coaches of the train derailed near Pukhrayan area. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday. Most of the 500 passengers on board were sleeping when the mishap occurred.

The army on Sunday carried out rescue operation at the site through the night.

In this connection, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu constituted a high level commission and it has started investigation into the accident.
