Dana Majhi Case: Achuyta Samanta shows the Way

achyuta-dana-majhi“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”. Here I am not talking about any politician or activist when I say ‘a leader’. The man, who has proved his mettle time and again with benevolence and philanthropic activities, has been subjected to both bouquets and brickbats. He has a vision – to serve the mankind and help the people in distress. Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore Dr. Achyuta Samanta.

The world shed tears on the plight of Dana Majhi of Kalahandi, who was forced to walk 10 km, carrying his wife’s dead body on shoulders. The incident triggered a massive outrage. It even motivated the Bahrain PM to donate Rs 9 lakh to Dana. But, it was Achyuta Samanta, who stepped in to take care of the education of Dana’s three daughters. While others just spoke and wrote, Dr. Samanta got them enrolled into KISS.

And, this is not the first time he has done this. Over 25,000 tribal kids from various places of Odisha are getting good education, better facilities and guidance to become self-reliant. Achyuta Samanta is no saint. He is just a human being. But, what makes him different from others – sheer determination and strong resolve. Critics may say a lot, but they know they are on the losing side today.
