BJD murdering Democracy by disrupting Odisha Assembly

Odisha AssemblyThis is not the first time they have resorted to such dirty tricks to crush the voice of Opposition and destroy democratic values. They have been doing it time and again whenever they find themselves in the dock. A ruling party with a massive majority of 118 MLAs in the 147-member Assembly, is not letting the House run! Nothing more outrageous and shameful than this.

A series of serious issues and key legislation are awaiting attention. But, the BJD MLAs have gone berserk on the issues that can be fought outside, not inside the Assembly. Both Mahanadi and Polavaram are not regional issues and Odisha Government is expected to fight those at appropriate forums. Will demonstration inside the Assembly and disruption of the House serve the purpose?

It’s true that Naveen Patnaik remains the invincible leader of Odisha and his party has been in power for the last 16 years. But, can they take things for granted just because they have the mandate? Whether it’s Parliament or Assembly, business must go as usual so that people don’t suffer. And, it definitely creates a weird situation when the ruling party plays the role of Opposition instead of ensuring smooth functioning of the House. Hope good sense prevails!!!
