Renowned Litterateur Prof. Ganeswar Mishra dies at 72

Ganeswar-MishraProf. Ganeswar Mishra, renowned Litterateur, former Professor in English at Utkal University and Founder-Editor of Prameya, Ganeswar Mishra, died at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar at the age of 72. He was suffering from cancer. He was great author and thinker and had been a driving force for many in Odisha.

Prof. Mishra was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Prof. Ganeswar Mishra was awarded PhD by London University. He was conferred with Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award for his book ‘Bilatare Babu O Papu’ in the children’s literature category. Many academicians, poets, writers, litterateurs, politicians and journalists have condoled his demise.

He is survived by his wife Surangini Mishra, a retired Reader in Economics, three sons and four daughters-in-law. His second son Siddhartha Mishra, who was the Sports Editor at The New Indian Express, died in 2012. His third son Sandeep Mishra, who recently quit The Times of India, is the Editor of leading Odia news channel Focus TV.
