Pradhan, Javadekar launch Pilot Phase of CNG for Two WheelersIn a major step to curb rising air pollution in cities, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday launched a pilot programme to run two wheelers on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in New Delhi.

Welcoming the initiative, Pradhan said that government is actively striving to promote clean fuel in the country. He said the government is promoting the use of gas and fulfilling the COP-21 commitments to curb pollution.

Pradhan also said that the government would expand the project to other areas after evaluating the experience of the pilot programme in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said government is fully committed to control pollution in the country, and for this purpose, there will be a jump from Euro-IV type fuel to Euro-VI by 2020.

The programme is being implemented by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and one of its parent companies, GAIL (India) Limited.

Notably, the CNG scooter is expected to cover a distance of 120 km with one fill of the tanks. The two-wheeler will contain two cylinders, with each cylinder weighing 1 kg each.
